Details of Services
Services are available to both the individual who has acquired the brain injury and for their caregivers. A caretaker who has been educated about how a brain injury can manifest, is much better able to support the survivor. A deeper understanding of how damage to the brain has affected their loved one, can help the caregiver(s) better address and cope with the multitude of possible challenges.
Basic Description of Services for the Survivor
Our philosophy in administering cognitive retraining services is that the individual's daily life and personal goals become the platform for therapy, whenever possible. Brain injury can effect an individual's cognitive processes such as: concentration, memory, information processing, emotional control, decision making, problem solving, self monitoring, etc. When these cognitive processes are challenged, the result is varied levels of difficulty in activities of daily living. Survivors are now challenged following through with daily tasks, that were easily accomplished before their injury. We can help.
Therapies center around improving timely task follow through and quality of tasks. This results in higher and higher levels of independence. Higher levels of independence result in better quality of life. This is accomplished through brain related education and compensatory strategy training.
Personal goals will be defined and all therapies will revolve around achieving these goals. Clients will be evaluated through a variety of professional assessments and questionnaires, including an in-depth discussion of personal and familial goals
As experienced vocational counselors, our therapists can also help to navigate the steps to take to return to work and/or school.
Basic Description of Services for Caregivers
Having a family member with an acquired brain injury can be challenging at many levels. Most families find that after their relative has been discharged from medical model rehabilitation programs, cognitive rehabilitation services are still necessary. We can help.
We specialize in educating family members and caretakers how to best serve the survivor. With basic education and guidance, caregivers can better promote cognitive rehabilitation and higher levels of independence. Without this guidance, caregivers may not be as effective as they could be.
Caregivers will learn specific tools and exercises that will support the rehabilitation process. We also offer emotional support and resources.
